Market Analysis
From the perspective of market positioning, the Great Wall H10 is in the price range of 200,000 to 250,000 yuan, which belongs to a cross-segment market. It has to face two completely different types of competitors at the same time: one is urban new energy 6-seater SUVs focusing on home comfort, and the other is hybrid boxy SUVs taking the hardcore off-road route. The product logics of the two types of competitors are significantly different, which directly determines the differentiation of user groups. Its direct competitors include Ford Bronco, Fangchengbao Bao 7 and other models.
Compared with urban oriented models such as Li Auto L6, the Great Wall H10 adopts a boxy body, has stronger chassis trafficability and four-wheel drive system, and can cope with bad roads, unpaved roads and camping scenarios. The advantages of Li Auto L6 lie in the intelligent cockpit and vehicle ecosystem, with a chassis tuned for urban use, almost no off-road capability, suitable for family users who drive on paved roads most of the time. The trade-off between the two is essentially a balance between "outdoor capability" and "urban driving quality".
Within the hardcore boxy SUV camp, the Great Wall H10 is essentially different from hardcore SUVs such as BAIC Off-road BJ60 range-extended version which adopt body-on-frame structure. Traditional hardcore SUVs have higher upper limit of mechanical structure, stronger reliability for extreme off-roading and long-distance crossing, but their body weight is larger, the fuel consumption for urban commuting is higher, and compromises are made on in-vehicle NVH and driving comfort on daily paved roads. At the same time, there are shortcomings in multi-member family use scenarios. The Great Wall H10 uses an unibody structure, retains the four-wheel drive system, only supports light off-roading, has better fuel consumption under battery-depleted condition and daily driving comfort than traditional hardcore SUVs. At the same time, it natively provides two layouts of 5-seater and 6-seater, and the third row space and trunk practicality are more suitable for the travel needs of large families.
Editor's Comment
On the whole, the launch of the Great Wall H10 fills the gap in the market segment at the price range of 200,000 to 250,000 yuan, but it also has obvious product trade-offs. It does not copy the body-on-frame structure of hardcore SUVs at the same price, but instead allocates more costs to space, intelligent driving and comfort configurations, in exchange for more friendly urban commuting energy consumption and daily riding experience, so it also gives up the hardware foundation for high-intensity off-roading. For ordinary family users who value the appearance aura, the practicality of 5/6 seats, and occasionally need to drive on unpaved roads and go camping, this vehicle has good comprehensive adaptability; but if users have the demand for frequent crossing and heavy off-roading, the upper limit of its chassis is not enough to support such scenarios. In the current market environment, its final product value completely depends on whether users are willing to pay for this product logic. Let's look forward to its subsequent market performance together. (Text / AUTOHOME Yao Yu)
