As a mid-cycle facelift version, the new car will adopt the NK new generation design language in its exterior styling, follow BMW's latest design concept for the interior, and be replaced with a 2.0T powertrain equipped with a 48V mild hybrid system. It is reported that the new car is expected to be officially unveiled in July 2027.
The X2 M40 exposed this time is the top-of-the-range M Performance performance version of the model series. At present, the whole vehicle is completing calibration tests of the chassis, power and cooling systems in an extremely high-temperature environment. The details of the exterior changes of the new car can be clearly distinguished from the camouflaged spy shots. The front end adopts the new narrow oval grille of the BMW SUV family, which is the core identification feature of the new car; the shape of the headlights on both sides has been greatly adjusted, the end of the light cluster close to the grille narrows inward, and the styling logic is consistent with the facelifted X1 of the same period, but it does not completely copy the light cluster style of the pure electric Neue Klasse models.
Most areas of the front bumper are covered by camouflage. Only the active air intake grille equipped in the center can be clearly seen, and vertical fin-shaped air diversion channels are reserved on both sides. Airflow can be guided to the wheel arches through the channels to optimize the vehicle's aerodynamics and brake cooling efficiency.
The side profile of the body has not been greatly adjusted, continuing the iconic fastback body line of the current X2 coupe SUV. The structure of the doors, waistline and windows all maintain the existing layout. The test car is equipped with multi-spoke sports wheels and matched with high-performance tires.
The changes at the rear are concentrated on the light clusters and the rear bumper. The outer contour of the taillights maintains the highly recognizable angled shape of the current model, which is also a design with great market controversy. BMW has not modified the shape of the taillights, but only replaced the internal structure with a new luminous light cluster; the bottom of the rear bumper is equipped with M Performance exclusive four-outlet circular exhaust pipes, and the roof is equipped with a larger-sized sports spoiler to further strengthen the performance positioning.
In terms of interior, the short shots captured by the photographer show that the cockpit of the new car has been completely reconstructed, the current central control layout is cancelled, and it is replaced with BMW's latest integrated digital cockpit. The instrument panel is equipped with a panoramic digital instrument, and the central control area is equipped with a 17.9-inch floating touch large screen. The vehicle's infotainment system supports highly customized display logic, and the technological sense of the cockpit has been significantly improved compared with the current model.
The powertrain is the core upgrade point of this facelift. The new car cancels the "i" logo in the current model's naming, is named X2 M40 xDrive, is equipped with a retuned 2.0T turbocharged four-cylinder engine, and is matched with a 48V MHEV mild hybrid system for the first time. This power combination takes into account fuel economy, exhaust emission performance and power output, with a comprehensive maximum power of 330 horsepower, which is a slight increase compared with the current model. The transmission system retains the 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox, and is standard equipped with the xDrive intelligent four-wheel drive system to ensure the handling and passability of the four-wheel drive model.
