[AUTOHOME Overseas Spy Shots] Recently, we obtained a set of spy photos of the camouflaged test vehicle of the M60 xDrive, the high-performance variant of the all-new BMW X7, from relevant channels. As a generational redesigned model, the new car is undergoing tests at the Nürburgring. This luxury three-row full-size SUV is carrying out dynamic performance calibration, and will be launched as a 2028 model. It is scheduled to make its global debut at the end of spring 2027 and go on sale officially in the same year.
Judging from the spy photos, the entire test vehicle is covered with camouflage, and its headlights and taillights are all temporary test parts, not mass-production versions. The basic body dimension information has been confirmed: the overall length of the vehicle exceeds 5 meters, and the wheelbase exceeds 3 meters. It remains positioned as the largest SUV under the BMW brand, mainly competing against mid-size to full-size luxury SUV products such as the Audi Q9, Mercedes-Benz GLS, Land Rover Range Rover and Volvo XC90. Its exterior design will not copy the design language of the "Neue Klasse" series of electric vehicles. The design ideas of the front face and rear end will refer to the facelifted BMW 7 Series, retaining the design characteristics of the brand's traditional luxury fuel vehicles.
In terms of interior, although no more interior pictures have been exposed, it is expected that a large number of cabin technologies from the Neue Klasse platform will be applied. For example, the new car may be equipped with a panoramic windshield display system, which was first unveiled on the iX3. It supports a total of 9 functional components, 3 of which directly replace the traditional digital instrument cluster, and the functions of the remaining 6 components can be customized through the 17.9-inch central control screen. At the same time, the new car will also be equipped with luxury configurations such as automatic doors, a 31.3-inch rear theater screen, and heated and ventilated rear seats, to continue to strengthen its flagship positioning.
In terms of power, the test vehicle in the spy photos is equipped with the iconic bilateral quad exhaust tips of M Performance models, so it can be confirmed that this prototype is the X7 M60 xDrive version, equipped with a 4.4T twin-turbocharged V8 engine with an estimated output of more than 600 horsepower, matched with the xDrive all-wheel drive system. BMW will not launch a full-fledged M variant for the new generation X7, and the higher performance positioning will be filled by the ALPINA version, which may be named "M100". In the fuel vehicle lineup, the entry-level X7 40 xDrive is equipped with a 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine, and high-end models are equipped with V8 power. In addition to the fuel version, BMW is also simultaneously developing the pure electric version iX7, which will also be launched to the market later.
At present, the research and development of the new car has entered the final stage. After completing the performance test at the Nürburgring, it also needs to undergo rigorous low-temperature winter tests. According to the plan, the all-new BMW X7 series will make its global debut at the end of spring 2027, and the M60 high-performance version will be delivered successively in the second half of 2027.
