New Vehicle Background
ID.AURA T6
The Volkswagen Group has deployed three new energy product lines in the domestic market: ID.ERA, ID.AURA, and ID.Yuzhong, among which ID.AURA belongs to FAW-Volkswagen. As FAW-Volkswagen officially enters the "Intelligent Electricity 2.0" stage, the first mass-produced model of the ID.AURA series - the ID.AURA T6 - is officially launched.
ID.Tiguan
The prototype basis of the ID.AURA T6 comes from the mid-cycle facelift (PA) model of the ID.4 series. The overseas version will adopt the new name ID.Tiguan, retaining the basic architecture of the ID.4 and upgrading it; the domestic market is named ID.AURA T6, and its electrical and electronic architecture adopts the CEA central centralized architecture jointly developed by Volkswagen and Xpeng, with a highly localized R&D approach.

It is necessary to distinguish between the fuel and pure electric Tiguan product lines here. The fuel version Tiguan (Tiguan L) is Volkswagen's classic global SUV. In 2018, it adopted the sister car strategy, with SAIC Volkswagen launching the Tiguan and FAW-Volkswagen launching the Tayron, which are the core sales cornerstones of Volkswagen's fuel SUVs. The ID.Tiguan can be regarded as the global orthodox pure electric successor model of the fuel Tiguan in the pure electric era, essentially a mid-cycle facelift product of the ID.4 series (domestic ID.4 X, ID.4 CROZZ), equipped with the upgraded MEB+ platform, and is scheduled to make its global debut in September 2026. The vehicle abandons Volkswagen's existing ID. digital naming system and reuses the classic Tiguan name.

The positioning routes of the ID.AURA T6 and the overseas ID.Tiguan are also different. The ID.AURA T6 is a China-exclusive model, led by FAW-Volkswagen with in-depth participation of domestic R&D teams, developed based on the CEA architecture cooperated by Volkswagen and Xpeng, and does not belong to Volkswagen's global model sequence. Its exterior design continues the latest family language of the overseas ID.Tiguan, and its launch schedule is prioritized over the overseas version of ID.Tiguan, which can be understood as an exclusive derivative product of the overseas ID.Tiguan in the Chinese market.
At the product level, the FAW-Volkswagen ID.AURA T6 targets the core track of domestic mid-size pure electric SUVs, directly competing with the BYD Song Ultra, Sea Lion 06, and Leapmotor C11. All four models are oriented towards family users, but their technical routes and product orientations have their own focuses: the BYD Song Ultra and Sea Lion 06 have multiple power versions to choose from, and have accumulated sufficient user reputation in the market segment; the Leapmotor C11 focuses on high cost-effectiveness and cockpit intelligent experience; while the ID.AURA T6 is oriented towards family consumers who value vehicle reliability, German chassis texture and joint venture quality control. The launch of the ID.AURA T6 has broken the monopoly of Chinese brands in the mid-size pure electric SUV market at this price range, adding more choices for family users.
Editor's Comment
The arrival of the FAW-Volkswagen ID.AURA T6 marks Volkswagen's strategic shift in the Chinese new energy market - from the past "using global vehicles to compete in the Chinese market" to "using China-developed vehicles to compete in the Chinese market". It no longer clings to the joint venture brand premium, but participates in the competition in the mainstream pure electric market with a more pragmatic attitude. With its comprehensive and balanced product strength, accurate market positioning and people-oriented pricing strategy, the ID.AURA T6 is precisely positioned in the mainstream household pure electric track, which not only fills the product gap of the brand in the pure electric market, but also provides a new idea for joint venture new energy models to break through the market.
