[Autohome Overseas Spy Shots] Recently, foreign media have revealed spy shots of the new hybrid version of the Volkswagen Taigo. This new model will be equipped with a 1.5L eTSI four-cylinder gasoline engine paired with a 48V mild hybrid system. The current overseas version of the Volkswagen Taigo on sale uses pure fuel power. With the further tightening of EU regulations, the model has also launched a hybrid version following the trend.
The appearance design of the spied test vehicle is basically consistent with the current model on sale. The headlights are equipped with the iconic C-shaped daytime running lights, and the intake grille adopts a honeycomb through-hole design.
Looking into the cockpit through the front windshield, we can see that the new car is equipped with two forward-facing cameras. Excluding one used as a dashcam, the other should be the forward perception sensor for the advanced driver-assistance system, which also means that the new car is expected to be equipped with L2-level driver-assistance functions.
From the side view, the spied vehicle adopts the two-tone wheel rim style equipped on the current model on sale, uses a traditional mechanical door handle design, is equipped with a silver sill trim and sharp shoulder/waist line design, and the overall design is consistent with the current model.
The body size of the new Taigo hybrid version will be the same as that of the current model. For reference, the length, width and height of the current Taigo sold in the European market are 4266 x 1757 x 1518 mm respectively, with a wheelbase of 2554 mm, and it is positioned as a small SUV.
The rear styling of the new Taigo hybrid version is consistent with that of the current model. The fastback design endows this car with a good sense of sportiness. Like the fuel version, the new car will adopt a hidden exhaust layout, which makes the rear look more integrated.
The biggest change of the new car lies in the powertrain. It is equipped with a 1.5L eTSI four-cylinder gasoline engine and a 48V mild hybrid system. The manufacturer has not yet announced the detailed power parameters. However, referring to models also equipped with 48V mild hybrid systems in Europe, its WLTP combined fuel consumption should be around 5L/100km.
