[Autohome News] On August 28, foreign media exposed the powertrain information of the all-new Tucson (the 5th generation), a compact SUV under the Hyundai brand. The model will provide two powertrain options, namely 1.6T hybrid and 1.6T fuel versions. It will first be launched in its home market of South Korea in the fourth quarter of this year, and will be introduced to the global market in 2027.
The core focus of this upgrade is the version equipped with the TMED-II FF second-generation full hybrid electric (HEV) system. This powertrain is based on a 1.6T gasoline engine, requires no external charging, and the battery is replenished through engine operation and driving kinetic energy recovery. The system has a combined power of 242 horsepower and a peak torque of 380 N·m. In terms of transmission, it is mated to a 6AT gearbox. Meanwhile, this powertrain delivers outstanding economic performance, with a fuel consumption of only 5.74L/100km based on the Korean test cycle.
In addition to the hybrid version, the all-new Tucson also offers a 1.6T fuel version, which is expected to have a maximum power of 177 horsepower and a peak torque of 217 N·m. In terms of energy consumption, the fuel consumption of the pure fuel model is 43% higher than that of the hybrid version. Besides, Hyundai has not yet confirmed information on other powertrain versions for now. Foreign media speculate that a 1.6T plug-in hybrid version will most likely be launched simultaneously, and diesel power is expected to be introduced in some overseas markets with relatively lenient emission policies.
A brief review of the vehicle's design: it adopts a brand-new design style, with a diffused star-ring full-width light strip, vertical H-Edge daytime running lights on both sides, and a closed front grille with rich lines, giving it great visual recognition. According to previously official information, the maximum opening angle of its rear doors has been expanded from 73° to 83°, improving the convenience of getting on and off the vehicle. Meanwhile, the second-row headroom of the vehicle has increased by 29mm to 1031mm. At the rear, the vehicle is equipped with a full-width taillight set, which echoes the front design visually. In terms of colors, it will offer 8 optional colors including pearl white, matte gray, metallic gray, matte orange, copper pearlescent and so on.
In addition, the all-new Tucson also launches the XRT version, which is mainly built to meet the needs of users who love off-roading. It is equipped with exclusive appearance kits, including a wider front air intake grille, exclusive rim design, blacked-out window trim, etc.
In terms of interior, the vehicle adopts a brand-new design style. The center console uses a floating layered structure, paired with full-width air conditioning vents, creating a rich visual sense of hierarchy. Meanwhile, the vehicle is also equipped with configurations such as a double-spoke multifunctional steering wheel, floating central control screen, narrow-strip full LCD instrument panel and wireless mobile phone charging, with fairly rich configurations. In terms of dimensions, the all-new Tucson measures 4700mm in length, 1905mm in width and 1685mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2785mm. Compared with the previous generation model, the vehicle length is increased by 60mm, the width is increased by 40mm, and the wheelbase is extended by 30mm.
